This review is focused on the key structural features of yolk-shell architectures, highlighting the recent advancements in their fabrication with adjustable space and mono- or multi-metallic composites. The effects of tailorable structure and functionality of yolk-shell nanostructures on various electrochemical processes are also summarized.
