Description:

(abstract)

Heptacene was synthesized within a MOF through in situ photochemical conversion of the precursor molecule. This approach accelerated the transformation reaction and suppressed the undesirable side reactions of heptacene via geometrical constraints. The bulk production of isolated heptacene molecules enabled the exploration of single-molecule properties, revealing the elusive electronic ground state of pristine heptacene.
