Description:

(abstract)

Commercial P25 TiO2 particles were surface-nitrided by urea decomposition under hydrothermal treatment. Before the nitridation, the calculated bandgap energy of P25 TiO2 was about 3.28 eV, which narrowed to about 3.14 eV after the nitridation, and the absorption onset extended into the visible region. The narrowed bandgap played a role in the photocatalytic performance under visible light irradiation. A visible photocatalytic coating with controllable transparency was successfully fabricated by an electrophoretic deposition process.
