説明:
(abstract)Back stress is an internal stress that develops in materials undergoing plastic deformation, arising from dislocation interactions with various microstructural features. It plays a crucial role in explaining the Bauschinger effect, typically seen in materials subjected to strain path changes. While the deformation behaviour of IN718 has been extensively studied, the influence of prestrain on back stress evolution in aged IN718 remains unclear. Tension (prestrain)-compression tests were conducted on IN718 with varying prestrain to reveal the evolution of the back stress. Two approaches were used to quantify back stress: a macroscopic one, where the back stress is estimated as half the difference between the maximum stress during prestrain and the yield stress during subsequent compression. In the second approach, back stress is calculated by measuring the geometrically necessary dislocation (GND) density in the deformed microstructures. Both approaches are shown to be consistent, and an increase in back stress was observed with increasing prestrain. The prestrained samples were characterized utilizing electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) measurement.
