Hot-melt adhesives (HMAs) are widely used in packaging, electronics, and automotive applications, but their adhesion to low-surface-energy polymers such as polypropylene (PP) remains challenging. Here, we present a simple and scalable method to prepare galloyl-grafted polypropylene (PPGA) by introducing a gallic-acid-bearing methacrylate onto PP through a peroxide-initiated process. The resulting hot-pressed adhesive PP films exhibited exceptionally high lap-shear strengths across various substrates. PPGA-based adhesives achieved substrate failure on PP, indicating that interfacial adhesion surpassed the cohesive strength of the substrate owing to molecular interdiffusion and fusion of amorphous PP chains at the interface. On metal substrates, the adhesives reached record-high lap-shear strengths up to 18.3 MPa on stainless steel, far exceeding those of pristine PP. Furthermore, PPGA maintained significant bonding strength on PP and stainless steel even after seven days of water immersion or UV aging, demonstrating excellent wet adhesion and long-term stability. This study establishes galloyl-grafted polypropylene as a high-performance, multi-substrate hot-melt adhesive with outstanding dry and wet adhesion, thereby offering a practical, scalable, and sustainable alternative to conventional hot-melt adhesives.
