Magnetic semiconductors are promising for applications and fundamental studies due to the strong interactions of excitons and the magnetic order. CrSBr is an air-stable magnetic van der Waals semi- conductor with strong magnetic anisotropy, that hosts these properties and the strong interaction of excitons with the magnetic order enables the optical distinction between different magnetic phases. Here, we study the magnetic anisotropy of multi-layer CrSBr inside a vector magnet and correlate magnetic order and optical transitions in emission and absorption. We analyse photoluminescence (PL) spectra with multiple peaks that show intricate dependence on the magnetic field applied along the magnetic easy axis. We observe a layer by layer switching of the magnetization in the system accompanied by drastic changes of the optical emission and absorption. The emission intensity of the parity forbidden transition reduces monotonously with increasing field strength while the parity allowed exciton transition brightens close to the saturation field. We correlate optical transitions in reflection spectra with PL emission using a transfer-matrix analysis and find that ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic order between layers can coexist in the same crystal.
