## Description

- description: We previously reported that Al13Fe4 consisting of abundant and inexpensive
metals, can be hydrogenated to form Al3FeH4 under high pressure and high temperature.
However, it remains unclear whether transition-metal-based Al–transition metal
alloys can also be hydrogenated. In the present study, Mn-based Mn–Al alloy hydrides
were synthesized, and their crystal structures, the composition dependence of
hydrogen content, and the hydrogen absorption and desorption properties of the
recovered alloy hydrides were investigated. The hcp MnxAl1-x alloy hydrides (x
= 0.9, 0.8, 0.7) were formed at 9 GPa and 750°C, and formed hydrides were recovered
at ambient conditions. The hydrogen compositions decreased with increasing Al
contents, which is attributed to the preferential occupation of Mn6 and Mn5Al1
O-sites in Mn-Al alloys by hydrogen atoms.
