## Title

- title: Surface Tension and Viscosity Measurements of MgO–SiO2 Melts using an Electrostatic
    Levitation Furnace onboard the ISS
  title_type: original
  lang: en

## Description

- description: This paper reports the experimental results of surface tension and
    viscosity measurements of molten xMgO–(99 – x)SiO2–1Fe2O3 samples (x = 30, 40,
50, 60, 67, and 70 mol%) by drop oscillation method using an electrostatic levitation
furnace onboard the International Space Station (ISS). Due to their high viscosities
and low electric charge on their surface, it was very difficult to excite a suffcient
amount of oscillations for samples with x = 30, 40, and 50. However, surface tension
and viscosity data were successfully obtained for x = 60, 67, and 70. No literature
values were found for the surface tension, while obtained viscosity values are
consistent with the literature data. Limitaitons of drop oscillation method for
surface tension and viscosity measruements are discussed.
