Elastic and inelastic neutron scattering experiments under high pressure in the frustrated antiferromagnet CuFeO2

MDR Open Deposited

The frustrated antiferromagnet CuFeO2 is known to exhibit pressure-induced complex magnetic phase transitions, from commensurate collinear (CM1) phase to several incommensurate (ICM) noncollinear phases. In order to study the high pressure effect on the magnetic interactions, we have performed the neutron diffraction and the inelastic neutron scattering experiments under high pressure condition. By comparing the experimental results to the spin-wave calculations, we found that the change in the spin-wave excitation can be explained by the reduction of either the uniaxial anisotropy term or the degree of separation in the nearest neighbor exchange interactions.
